First off, thank you for subscribing! The purpose of this newsletter is simple: to share my thoughts on running-related topics. That could include shoes, gear, workouts, running gossip (Boston Marathon drama), or general advice to help keep things engaging. For those who don’t know me, or need a refresher, my name is Chase Solarin. I’m a running enthusiast currently living in San Diego, CA. I’ve toyed with the idea of moving, but it really does not get much better than San Diego as a runner. I moved here in 2017 for what was supposed to be a two-year plan. Fast forward, and here I am, married (shout out to Marisa) with two dogs, Booker and Bird.
I’m also a run coach. As of the publication of this newsletter (January 20, 2026), the Instagram 2016 flashback trend was making the rounds on the internet, and I ended up posting a few photos of what I considered “2016 highlights.” I usually avoid trends, but while looking through some old photos, I came across one of me and a few friends after the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Philly. I was the one who convinced everyone in that photo to sign up for the race. One of those friends, Paul, has since gone on to complete several more races (coached him for a few), along with a few triathlons. Seeing that photo was a reminder of something I’ve probably always known. I really enjoy getting people together to run. After a number of books, certifications, and a lot of time spent learning along the way, I started my run coaching business. I don’t have any goals of becoming “the top run coach.” I just really want to service the people who trust me to guide them along their running journey.

In closing, I don’t think running needs more noise — it needs real connection. Chase Distance Monthly is where I’ll share what I’m thinking about, what’s working (or not working), and what I believe is worth paying attention to right now. My hope is that this feels like a steady, useful touchpoint in your day-to-day training. Something practical, honest - but most importantly, relatable. Thanks for being here, and for trusting me to be part of your running journey. Let’s keep moving forward together.
